I got a note from Tanyss Munro and the Amarok Society.
Amarok started an education program in the slums of Bangladesh. They teach mothers how to read and write and do math. The one condition is that each mother then has to run a school herself, and teach reading and writing and math to 5 children in her neighbourhood.
The results of this little effort is world-changing. Women are now seen as a source of education, and not just as domestic slaves. Women and education are a way out of the slums an into a better way of life.
I use a story from Amarok in my book about a little girl who changed the world and changed her family.
